Bush

NICOLE WAS watching Yami on Seb’s security cameras. She saw her roll from the lorry and into the bush. It was quick. She could only hope no one was staring as intently at the footage as she was.

She stared at the bush for hours. The image of it burnt into her retinas. She took the laptop to the loo with her in case Yami moved while she was having a pee. But Yami didn’t move. Did she see Seb come out of the front door and down into that hidden basement place? Did she see the four men following Seb? Did she see Seb return alone to the big house?

Why hadn’t Yami thought of some sort of communication? Nicole knew the answer. Yami wanted to do this alone.

Nicole watched the bush. Yami was completely hidden from all angles. At least that was a relief.

Had Yami bottled it? She’d had a couple of chances to get Seb. His back had been turned to her. She was fast - Nicole had seen her move - she could’ve easily done him by now.

Yami. Nicole thought about her. She’d never seen anything like it that day she’d shot over the train lines and drop kicked that son of a bitch in the back. He lay on the floor squealing like a little stuffed pig. She was so tiny. How could she floor a big man like that? Nicole was in her debt.

Her illness was sometimes debilitating.

She had a dark past. And that intrigued Nicole. She had let bits and pieces slip, mostly about Seb raping her. And she knew she’d been in prison for murdering someone. She’d said she was framed.

Nicole had googled it and was shocked when she read it was her dad she’d murdered - allegedly. But she believed her. Yami didn't lie. She was sure of that.

Then there was Gabe. That man she talked to. Who was he?

Nicole knew there was more. She would get it out of her. That was Nicole’s special skill. Finding stuff out.

She’d been amazed when she brought her to the house. She’d expected a grubby little flat over a chip shop somewhere. But this… this was incredible. She’d never seen luxury like it. It was for rich people. Yami must have loads of money, but she didn't think she was from a rich family.

And that backpack. Nicole had been straight into it when Yami left to get food. It was filled with guns, knives, ID’s, passports, jewels and money. So much money. Where had she gotten it all from? She’d only been out of the slammer a year.

Nicole found Yami very attractive. She had the most beautiful, sad,
